Dec 16 witness examined by counsel

The male friend and sole witness to the December 16 gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus was cross-examined by the defence on Monday.

The youth, a software engineer, who had testified as a witness for the prosecution during in-camera proceedings against the five accused, was cross-examined by the counsel for accused Pawan Gupta. All the five accused have pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and murder. The cross-examination will continue on Tuesday.

Apart from the youth who came on a wheel chair due to injuries caused on the fateful nigh, three others, including a person who had seen the accused destroying evidence after the crime, have already deposed in court.

On Tuesday, the court will record the evidence of the youth and four others, including the magistrate, who was part of the judicial proceedings relating to the test identification parade of the accused.

The 23-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2012 in Singapore.
