Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keonics) Manager (IT Parks) Shivakumar K Karadkal said on Thursday that the Namma Metro network would be extended by the time the proposed Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) gets developed.

The ITIR project is presently before the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) awaiting final clearance.

The Rs 1 lakh crore region is being developed by Central and State governments in association with private partners for which Keonics is the nodal agency.

The task of connecting ITIR would be handed over to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The BMRCL is currently preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Namma Metro rail link to Bengaluru International Airport (BIA). “Once ITIR project is up and running, a feasibility study would be conducted to extend the same line beyond BIA and till ITIR. BMRCL itself might get the chance to implement the metro corridor to ITIR,” another official said.

BMRCL has suggested to extend the proposed Metro corridor from Gottigere to Nagavara (under Phase II) up to the BIA. The ITIR received State Cabinet approval on January 28, 2010 and in-principle approval from the Central government on June 5, 2010.
