Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Executive Director of Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) Dr Vishnukanth S Chatpalli said that the centre has been conceived as an attempt to reorient, revamp and restructure the employment exchanges in the State to make them more relevant and productive.

Facilities

The modern HRD centres will have all the facilities like online registration, counselling, assessment, evaluation and placement to meet the current requirements of the industries. The infrastructure, facilities and necessary equipment and software for the centre will be provided by KVTSDC while the service, assessment and placement solutions shall be provided by a private company Team Lease Staffing Solutions.

Dr Chatpalli informed that Mangalore was chosen as the location for the first centre just because every requirement fell in place at first in the coastal city. The government has plans to open two more such centres, probably in Bijapur and Gulbarga soon, he added.

Vice President of Team Lease Neeti Sharma informed that the very purpose of the HRD centres was to make more and more people employable thereby bridging the huge gap between education and industry requirements with skill. She said that around 120 candidates have been assessed by the centre in the last one week while 15 to 20 have been sent to job interviews. District Employment Officer S D Basavaraj and others were present at the press meet.
