MLC's car knocks down two students

Last Updated 09 March 2013, 20:14 IST

Two students were seriously injured when the motorbike they were riding collided head-on with an official car belonging to BJP Member of the Legislative Council Ramachandre Gowda, near the Ulsoor Lake Saturday afternoon.

The MLC was present in the car at the time of the accident.

The students were rushed to the nearby Chinmayya Hospital where their condition is said to be stable and out of danger.

Rohith, 21, and Manu, 22, both residents of KR Puram, are pursuing their diploma at MVJ College of Engineering in Channasandra. Police said the two were returning from Malleswaram.

Eye-witnesses said the MLC’s car was speeding from Old Madras Road and did not even stop at the traffic signal. “The driver of the car apparently turned on the beacon light and siren and rushed through, trying to jump the signal,” the onlookers said.

Police have taken car driver Harish into custody. Gowda later visited the students at the hospital.

“I had been to a programme arranged by the party in KR Puram. But I got a call that one of my relatives had died. So, I left the programme midway and rushed to the relative’s house and this accident occurred.

I have visited the hospital and also spoken to the doctors. I will bear all the medical expenses of the students’ treatment,” the MLC told Deccan Herald.

Man hacked to death

Chandrashekar, 31, a painter, was hacked to death in Murphy Town Friday late night. The incident came to light on Saturday early morning, when the residents noticed a dead body lying on the road near Jayaraj Nagar park. A resident of Banasawadi, police said Chandrashekar had sustained severe stab injuries and his head bludgeoned using a boulder found nearby his body.

Recently divorced, Chandrashekar, had a five-year-old-son Karan, whose custody had been the bone of contention between the couple.

Chandrashekar’s wife lives in Murphy Town with her brothers – the same area where Chandrashekar was found dead. Police suspect Chandrashekar might have come to the area to visit his son, when he was attacked by a gang of men. Chandrashekar’s visiting his son had not gone well with his brothers-in-law.

The body was handed over to Chandrashekar’s family after autopsy at Bowring Hospital. The family has alleged that Chandrashekar’s wife and her brothers were behind the murder.  Ulsoor Police registered a case of murder and are investigating. It is learnt Ulsoor police have picked two men in connection and are questioning them.
