Gallery g turned ten recently and looking back, owner Gita Maini says that the journey thus far has been a rewarding one. Gita has always been passionate about art and popularising the same in the City.

Her gallery has opened its doors not only to established artists from across the country, but to those who have not yet acquired a name for themselves as well.
Gita hosted an exclusive press preview, where she showcased the works of a few artists. She also spoke at length about her experiences of single-handedly start an initiative and ensuring that it runs successfully.

Gita recollects that when the gallery was started a decade ago, there weren’t too many places that sold art because of which art lovers didn’t have too many choices.
“But now, there’s an explosion of art and places selling it. The growth of my gallery has demanded creativity, hard work, empathy and foresight,” she shares.

The gallery has a host of activities such as the promotion of upcoming artists through an artist initiative programme, shows, curating for corporates and homes, and valuations. “We sell art that’s priced from Rs 5,000 and above. The artist initiative programme encourages artists from the rural areas across the country to showcase their work,” she adds.

Gita feels that people like to buy pieces of art that not only look good but also have a happy theme. “Contrary to popular perception, the art scene in the City is not dull. It has been growing at a steady pace,” she explains.

Gita also intends to branch out into art decor in a big way. “We want to take up art decor rather seriously. There are people who want to do up not just their walls but the curtain drapes and bedrooms as well in an arty way. We want to take art decor forward,” she explains.

The gallery is presently showcasing the ‘Mumbai Look’ series, which portrays the various facets of Mumbai and ‘KolKatha’, where the artist has captured the various faces of Kolkata as a city.
