Tantrik rapes 24-year-old woman, held

He was caught red-handed

A 62-year-old tantrik has been arrested for allegedly raping a married woman at south Delhi’s Moti Bagh, police said on Wednesday.

Hira Lal was held outside Safdarjung Hospital after a complaint was lodged by the 24-year-old victim’s husband with South Campus police station. Her husband told police that he had approached Hira for a solution to his strained married life.

“The victim was suffering from some health related problems for the last few years due to which her married life was also disturbed. Her husband had discussed his problems with one of his neighbours who advised him to meet Hira for a solution,” a police officer said.

He met the tantrik who told him that his wife was under the influence of evil sprits. He also told him that he will have to perform some ‘black magic’ to get rid of the evil spirits.
“The complainant got convinced and agreed to his plan,” the officer added.

Hira arrived at the victim’s house late on Monday and asked her husband and other family members to leave her with him, while he performed some rituals.

“The tantrik locked himself with the victim in the adjacent room and gave her something to eat. The victim became unconscious after which he raped her. In the meantime, the victim’s husband managed to open the door and saw Hira raping his wife,” a police officer said.

He immediately raised an alarm, but Hira managed to flee. He informed police at 1 am on Tuesday.

A medical examination of the victim confirmed rape after which a case was registered.
“We are verifying if he has a criminal history,” the officer added.
