Finally there is a ray of hope in the family of Anantharam, a constable who met with an accident in Neriyakatte on December 6, 2002 and became crippled for life.

After a long struggle for help from the government for the last seven years, finally the government has decided to appoint his wife Shyamalatha as Junior Assistant on contract basis at Chief Minister’s office in Bangalore. Speaking to Deccan Herald, she said “I joined for duty on Monday. The Chief Minister had assured to help me during my recent visit. When I visited CM’s office few days ago, they said my order is ready and I have to join for duty immediately.”  Now the DGP office has asked all the files regarding Ananthram’s case for considering pension to Ananthram. The IGP office in Mangalore has already sent the file to DGP office on September 27, 2009.

It may be recalled that Deccan Herald had carried a report on Ananthram’s struggle to get help from the government on October 20, 2008.

Ananthram had joined the police department as constable on March 8, 1994. After finishing his day’s duty at Nellyadi on December 6, 2002, he along with his friend were on their way to Uppinangady police station when a lorry knocked the scooter he was riding, paralysing him for life.

Following the accident, Ananthramsuffered damage to the spinal cord and backside of the head, thus crippling him from chest.

After the accident on December 6, 2002, he had availed EL till April 18, 2003. Later, he was given leave on medical ground from April 19, 2003 to November 30, 2004. If one takes, all these leaves into account, then his service in department will be 10 years.

However, the doctor had issued a medical certificate saying the percentage of disability is 90 per cent and is unfit for work from the day of the accident itself. The family had spent nearly Rs 6 lakh for Ananthram’s treatment.

But all the efforts were in vain. Apart from this, Ananthram was not getting pension, as he had not completed 10 years of service.
