Nursing student alleges gang-rape

An incident of alleged kidnap and gang-rape of a 19-year-old nursing student by three men on April 21, has come to light. The girl is being treated at the St John’s Medical Hospital and is said to be stable.

Following a complaint lodged by the student with the Ashok Nagar police on Monday morning, City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told Deccan Herald that Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Kamal Panth was conducting an inquiry into the case and the culprits would be brought to book soon.

Sources said the victim is a nursing student with St John’s Medical College here. She hails from Kerala.

In her complaint to the police, she has said that she was kidnapped from Mother Teresa Road at 8:30 am on April 21. She was on her way to her hostel after visiting the church near Johnson Market for Sunday service.

As she was waiting for the bus, a white SUV stopped near her and the men in the vehicle sought for directions. Even as she was explaining, one of them opened the door and pulled her inside the SUV and the vehicle sped off.

The three men misbehaved with her and she was forcibly taken to a lonely house on the outskirts of the City and was made to consume liquor. Later, they repeatedly raped her. When she woke up by evening, she realised she had fallen unconscious and the men had left the place.

A middle-aged woman who was present in the house dropped her back to her hostel.
Sources said the victim did not inform anyone about the incident and went to her room. However, the hostel warden got to know abut her condition through her roommates and got her admitted to the St John’s Medical Hospital.

Complaint lodged

The girl lodged a complaint with Ashok Nagar police, the next day.

Sources said on Wednesday afternoon Kamal Panth visited Ashok Nagar police station and also met the girl.

Dr George D’Souza, Medical Superintendent of St John’s Hospital confirmed to Deccan Herald that the girl was being treated at the hospital.

He said: “It is a very sensitive issue involving one of us and the hospital would not like to comment.”

Police sources said medical examination was conducted on the victim at a government hospital, which, the police did not wish to disclose. The medical report is awaited.
