Brigadier P S Ravindranth, Commander of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area and Lieutenant General K Nagaraj (retd) led the gathering of officers, in service as well as retired, in paying tribute to the martyrs of the Indian Army’s infantry.

They laid wreaths at the memorial. It was on October 27, 1947 that the first infantry soldier landed in Kashmir valley and in the action that followed, the Pakistani invaders were repulsed.

Speaking at the Sainik Sammelan organised on the occasion, Brigadier Ravindranath said, even though weapons and technology have changed over the years, the infantry unit/division of the Army continues to be the most important wing.

An infantry day golf championship was also organised on this occasion in which, Major General M C Nanjappa (Retd) won the trophy.
