Darshan, the boy who was admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital on Monday with burns and head injury, continues to be critical. However, his relative on Wednesday alleged that the boy was beaten up by his mother and her friend.

The doctors treating him said: “The patient had convulsions and is still in the ICU (intensive care unit). Necessary treatment is being provided, but he is still critical.”

Although he is nursing burns, the major problem leading to convulsions is the head injury, which the doctors have diagnosed as an infection or inflammation of the meninges and encephalitis, an infection or inflammation of the brain simultaneously.

The doctors, on seeing his condition on Monday, alerted the Child Welfare Commission (CWC) and lodged a medico-legal case.

Confusion

The boy was identified as a four-year-old hailing from Raichur, till his relatives from Bangarpet in Kolar Gold Fields visited him in the hospital on Wednesday morning.

His relatives told Deccan Herald that they hail from Bangarpet and the boy was aged only three years.

Confusion over the boy’s place of residence and age was due to his grandmother’s inability to communicate properly. The hospital had taken precaution to see that all the authorities concerned are informed about the case, so as to help the child, said the hospital authorities.

Mallesh, who identified himself as the boy’s uncle, alleged that his nephew was admitted to the hospital after he was beaten up by his mother Meena and her friend Mulla.

“Meena, her husband (Daamu) and Darshan lived with us until January this year. She then ‘eloped’ with Mulla, while Daamu, upset over this, left for Tamil Nadu.”

She had also taken the boy with her and they saw the boy only on Sunday last, when a family friend handed him over to the grandmother.

“Meena and Mulla left the boy, who was in a bad state, with the family friend and had given him some money to keep their visit a secret,” he said.

Stating that his nephew was even struggling to see, Mallesh said: “We have lodged a complaint against Meena and Mulla in Bangarpet.”

CWC inquiry

CWC chairperson Meena Jain said the case has been transferred to Bangarpet, where her team will look into the allegations.

A police officer from the Victoria Hospital police station said: “The jurisdictional police (Bangarpet) have visited the victim and collected the medical report from the doctors, they will soon register a case.”
