That was the appeal of the students of Gummanakolli Lower Primary School coming under the limits of Mullusoge Gram Panchayat.

A team of five students from this school will present a project report during the 17th district-level children’s science congress-2009 scheduled to be held ay St Joseph’s Girls’ High School on October 29 under the aegis of Karnataka State Vigyan Parishat.

The paper will be on preventing fuel waste. The students have prepared the paper under the guidance of their teacher N K Maladevi. The team comprises K M Poojitha, Soudat, Bhargavi, Ruksana and Sunil, who have conducted survey in their Gummanakolli village.
They have met the members of about 100 families in the village and collected data regarding their fuel source, waste being taken place, measures that can be taken up to prevent this, etc.

The research paper states that the villagers waste about 56 per cent of energy while using TV, fan and other electrical equipment. They have also been successful in creating awareness among the people that they could save at least 50 per cent of the energy with the effective use of equipment.

The report also states that people are dissipating 32 per cent of domestic LPG since they are not making proper use of the cookers.

The students have also met the gas distributors and gathered information. They have even met the Fire personnel and requested them to create awareness among the people during fire hazards.

The school head mistress A R Chandravathi said the students have also met the local Gram Panchayat and Sthree Shakti groups.  They have appealed in their paper that the administration and voluntary organisations should take active roles in creating awareness, she informed.
