Asian Athletics GP: Surender, Antil to lead Indian challenge

India will field competitors in 16 events out of 21, including the 4X100m and 4X400m relay races for both men and women.

Other prominent athletes taking part in the series are national record holder in high jump Hari Shankar Roy, shot putter Om Prakash and woman discus thrower Krishna Poonia.

The Indian athletes will also get a chance to qualify for the World Championships to be held in Berlin from August 15-23.
Only two Indian athletes -- Joseph Abraham in men's 400m hurdles and Krishna Poonia in women's discus throw -- have qualified for Berlin in the three-leg Indian Grand Prix series this month.

More than 200 elite athletes from 21 Asian countries will take in the GP series whose two other legs would be held at Kunshan (May 27) and Hong Kong (May 30), both in China.

The gold medal winners will pocket USD 1,500 while USD 800 and 500 will be awarded to the second and third place finishers respectively.
