<p>Seven members of a family were killed Monday in a massive explosion when their car ran over a roadside bomb in Afghanistan's eastern province of Laghman, authorities said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>"Four women, two children and a man were martyred as their car ran over a roadside bomb in Hakim Abad area of the Laghman province at around 7 a.m. Monday," the provincial government said in a statement. <br /><br />The civilians were returning home after collecting firewood in the province, 90 km east of Kabul, reported Xinhua.<br /><br />The statement blamed Taliban for placing the bomb. <br /><br />Taliban militants, who have been waging an insurgency for more than a decade, use Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to launch roadside bomb attack on security forces but the lethal weapon also inflicts casualties on civilians. <br /><br />A total of 2,754 Afghan civilians were killed and 4,805 injured in conflict-related violence in 2012, according to a UN report released in Kabul in February. <br /></p>
