The birds, believed to have been captured from Ganjam district, were being taken for sale in West Bengal when they were spotted at Barang railway station by forest officials on Sunday. The man carrying the birds was arrested.

After being rescued, the birds were sent to the Nandankanan zoological park here. Grey hornbill, not generally found in the region, is an endangered bird and protected under schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
