A minor girl from Bihar who had reportedly eloped with an unidentified boy was rescued and sent to a remand home at Madivala, the City police have claimed.

The operation was carried out after the Superintendent of Police, Kaimur district, Bihar, briefed the City police on Saturday about the 17-year-old girl’s “abduction”.

The SP informed the City police that the girl’s mobile phone call detail record and tower location suggested that she was staying at Cottonpet. He then requested the police to trace the girl, saying she was “abducted” and her parents had lodged a complaint in that regard. “We acted on the inputs and traced the girl to Balekai Mandi in Cottonpet,” said the police inspector.

The girl told the police that she hailed from Kaimur district.

“We passed on the information to Kaimur police and sent her to the remand home,” added the inspector. The Kaimur police are likely to arrive in the City on Wednesday and take her back to Bihar.

The boy who has been accused of “abducting” the girl is “absconding”. The couple reached the City a week ago and stayed in lodges for sometime, the inspector said. Police would find out if anyone planned to force the girl into prostitution.

Homemaker kills self

A homemaker was found hanging with a duppata at her home in Naganathapura here on Monday night.

Manju, 27, a native of Chennai, allegedly hanged herself after sending away her one-year-old baby with her mother-in-law. She married Venugopal, a cook at a hotel in Sarjapura, two years ago. The couple had a one-year-old baby. It was unclear why Manju ended her life, police said. The alleged suicide came to light when her mother-in-law returned home, police added.
