Kingfisher Derby trophy unveiled

The build-up for the Summer Season’s biggest race -- The Kingfisher Derby -- began with the blue riband event’s sponsor unveiling the trophy here at the Bangalore Turf Club on Saturday.

The Derby, which is scheduled to be held on July 14, is expected to offer a total prize money of Rs 1.25 crore for the main event. “Come Sunday, it will be the 26th edition of the Kingfisher Derby and we are extremely proud to be associated with it,” said United Breweries Limited’s Marketing Assistant Vice-President Gurpreet Singh after the trophy was unveiled by Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi.

“It’s the biggest race of the season and it was our former chairman the late Vittal Mallya’s idea to be part of the extravaganza. We’ve just continued in his path. The last 26 years have been a testament to the way the racing has evolved with each passing year to now become the melting pot for racing enthusiasts, fashionistas and the who’s who of the city.

We are confident the top horses of the country will once again be a part of the event and make it a true success,” added Gurpreet. The draw for the main event will be held on Friday.
