Comfortable in a new environment

There’s a lot of buzz on the MS Ramaiah campus and the reason is the new batch of students, who have joined MS Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Across the three streams, the freshers are visibly excited about finally entering college. They tell Metrolife about their hopes and expectations from the next three years.

Vidyashree KS, who has joined the commerce department, says that the name of the college made her want to apply. “It’s known to be a nice institute with a good campus and teachers who know what they’re talking about. The education system is good and it helps in the overall development of the student,” she says.

For her batchmate Akshay Kumar, this was the obvious choice because his sister had studied here. “My sister told me that it’s a good environment to study in and that teachers understand the students. I’ve come from Delhi and even there, people hold the college in high esteem,” he says.

Students of the arts stream are also impressed. “I’m coming from an all-girls college. I wanted a crowd where nobody knew me. I’ve heard that the BA course is good and that a lot of personal attention is given to students,” says Shraddha Shyam, adding, “the teachers encourage students to explore extracurricular activities here.”

Nandini U, another BA student, agrees. “It’s an open system where students can enjoy the freedom to express themselves. At the same time, there is a discipline maintained,” notes Nandini. “There are also clubs and activities one can be involved in. I’ve already joined NCC and sports. I love the fact that girls can play football here!” she adds.

The science students are also a happy lot. “This has been my dream college and I was desperate to get admission here. The teachers are supportive but my results depend on me. I’m sure I’ll have a great time here,” notes Saptarshi Mondal, who has come from Kolkata to pursue his BSc in biotechnology.

Ruthu Prabhakar, who is pursuing her BSc in genetics, adds, “I came and visited the college before applying and felt that it would provide a great education. The labs are clean and well equipped. It’s a warm and friendly environment and I’m happy to be here.” Along with the students, there’s also a new principal heading the college. Dr A Nagarathna says that she is excited since each new batch means new experiences for the faculty too.

“All the students come with different mindsets. They aren’t all from Karnataka — many are from other parts of India and some are international students. We look forward to getting to know them and mould them for the future. By the end of three years, we hope that they become individuals who can face the world,” she shares.
