She had come to distribute her son's wedding cards

Little did this couple know tragedy would strike them when they reached the City on Monday.

Janakaraj and Pushparani had come to Bangalore to distribute the wedding cards of their son. Janakaraj is a weaver in Salem.

The couple have two children - Srinivas and Vishnukumari. The marriage of Srinivas was scheduled for September 9. Pushparani was one among the four persons mowed down by a speeding SUV at Parappana Agrahara on Monday night.

Pushparani’s cousin Indrani is married to Govindaraj, who works as a security guard.
“We all had dinner at our house and proceeded towards the bus stop at around 10:15 pm. I crossed the road and reached the entrance, while Janakaraj, Pushparani and Indrani followed me. Suddenly, I heard screams and looked back only to find my wife and her cousin lying in a pool of blood,”   Govindaraj told Deccan Herald. He said his wife was tossed in the air and the vehicle crushed her legs.

Justice sought

Pushparani's brother Arthanari said he wants justice for his sister as her death amounts to murder.

“More than compensation, we would be happy if the guilty is arrested and given the harshest punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

Rajagopal, a push-cart vendor at the accident spot, said the other two dead - Vijayakumar and Raja Nayak - hailed from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district. Vijayakumar used to work at a dhaba near Hiriyur.

He is survived by his wife and two children. He had come to the City four months ago and had been selling vegetables. Nayak, who settled in Bangalore four years ago, was also a vegetable vendor. He was to marry shortly.

Heartrending scenes were witnessed at St John’s Hospital with the relatives of the victims crying inconsolably.
