Rush of devotees continues on third Ashada Friday too

Third Ashada Masa puja at Goddess Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hill on Friday continued to witness a huge rush of devotees.

Braving the morning chill, that had enveloped the surroundings of the temple till 9 am, devotees waited for the darshan of the deity since early morning hours. The temple opened doors at 5.30 am and remained open till 10.30 pm.

The main hall of the temple leading to the sanctum sanctorum, this week, was decorated on the lines of durbar hall of the Palace, with various hues of flowers. During the previous weeks, grape yard and a pomegranate farm had been recreated adding to the attractions of the occasion.

With the next big celebration to be the Goddess’ Vardhanthi (birthday) Mahotsava on July 28, the temple administration is busy making preparations for the D-day.

Chief priest of the temple Shashishekar Dixit told the media, that the temple on the day will open at 8 am and the procession of golden palanquin with the utsava murthy placed inside is scheduled at 10.30 am. As is the tradition, royal scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and his wife Pramodadevi Wadiyar are expected to participate in the utsava.

Silver plated door

A silver plated door will be offered to the sanctum sanctorum of Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi hill during Vardhanthi celebrations at the temple on July 28.

Speaking at a press meet here on Friday, secretary of Bettada Balaga, Govind said that the silver plated door is being offered by Rajanna, as a vow to the goddess. The door made of teakwood, is plated with 10.5 kg of silver.

The door was sculpted by Chennappachar and it will be installed on July 28 at the temple. Chennappachar said that it usually takes two years to complete silver plated doors. However, this door was completed in six months.
