Remembering a legend

winner A scene from Black Comedy.

Bearing this in mind, Ranga Shankara sought to pay a tribute to this great actor. On his birthday, Ranga Shankara team, launched an official website calledwww.shankarnag.in, where his work and life has been cherished by those who were near and dear to him.

“The website is still in its rudimentary form but we hope that it will grow with the participation of who have worked with Shankar,” says Arundhati Nag, the Creative Director of Ranga Shankara.

The website aims to be a platform for all those who have known the actor and share interesting tidbits about him, rare photographs and also discuss topic on various issues. For all the film buffs the site promises to have 20 odd film clippings either made or starred by the actor.

The launch turned out to be a mini get together of sorts, because many well wishers like Girish Karnad, Kappana, B Jayashree, Ramesh Bhat, Prakash Belawadi and others had assembled. Launching the site, Girish Karnad, the man who had first discovered Shankar Nag, spoke about when he had cast him for Onda Ondu Kala Dali. “My association with him goes a long way back. I needed to cast an unconventional hero for my filmbut when I approached him all he wanted to be was the assistant director. There was not a moment when he was doing nothing. I used to tease him about that. Now through this website, we can immortalise him,” he added.

The evening also saw a stand up comedy by Ajith Saldanha. It concluded with a distribution of certificates to the participants of the inter collegiate theatre competition where Mount Carmel College that bagged the first prize got an opportunity to perform their play, Black Comedy.
