Naveen Kumar, 30, who allegedly stabbed his father-in-law Damodar Naidu, 59, to death at his house in JC Nagar on Wednesday morning over a family dispute, was nabbed within hours of the crime, police said.

Naidu owned a tailor shop in Bapuji Nagar. His daughter Usha alias Vani had married Kumar, a cab driver, eight years ago. The couple reside at Bahubali Nagar in JC Nagar police limits.
Usha had recently given birth to a son and her mother Vimala was staying with her to look after the baby.

Wife harassed

According to police, Kumar used to come home drunk and harass Usha and her mother. On Tuesday night, he beat up his mother-in-law, who called up her husband Naidu to sort out the issue.

Naidu went to his daughter’s house on Wednesday morning and reprimanded Kumar for his unruly behaviour. Enraged, Kumar whipped out a knife and stabbed Naidu below the abdomen. Naidu collapsed in a pool of blood and died instantly.

The JC Nagar police arrested Kumar in a nearby area by afternoon.
