A 21-year-old Indian army soldier was arrested today on charges of sending obscene SMSes and making nagging phone calls to a girl.

According to the police, Mylapalli Vinod Kumar, a resident of Gajuwaka area in the city, joined the Indian Army a few years ago and he was posted at Wellington, a town near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, from where he came to his home city to spend his vacation.

When the girl residing at Pendurthi area in the city refused Vinod Kumar's love proposal, he allegedly sent abusive and lewd SMSes and made nagging calls to her, using three SIM cards issued in Tamil Nadu.

Inspector of Police CCIC, B V Venkateswara Rao and his team, which investigated the case based on IMEI numbers of the accused's phone and identity proofs of SIM cards, arrested Vinod Kumar today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Mohamoud Khan said the police also seized a mobile phone and SIM cards from the accused.

Khan said they would communicate the matter to officials of the Indian Army for further action against Vinod Kumar.
