Something for everyone

The humanities fest Taarini, celebrating youth and its energy, was organised by the Social Sciences Forum of Maharana Lakshmi Ammanni College For Women on the college premises recently. With interesting events like face painting, pencil sketching, painting, collage-making, model designing, and on stage events like mad-ads, the fest was a success. The college was bubbling with activity as participants and organisers moved around excitedly.

Some of the college students, who took part in the fest, had some interesting experiences to share. “We were not prepared for the act as we heard about the fest at the last moment. But our concept was about ‘sweatshirts’, and we tried our best to popularise the item in a presentable manner on stage,” shared Raina, a first-year pre-university student of Mount Carmel College. She added, “We had exactly one hour to put everything together. Nevertheless, we tried to put our best foot forward.”

In the ‘Pick n Speak’ event, where one got to speak on a topic for three minutes, there was a lot of energy. Vinod, a third-year student from MSR Degree College, shared, “It was a fair event and a learning experience. I was supposed to speak on the impact of Indian serials, and it was challenging to put my views in an organised manner in the given time limit.”

The pencil sketching task required the participants to focus on Indian women. “I sketched a woman in sari with a pot in a village scenario. The event was tricky, because I only got 30 minutes to finish the sketch,” said Manjushree, a final-year student from St Anne’s First Grade College for Women. She added, “The other participants were very competitive.”

Spoorthy, one of the organisers of the fest, commented about what happened behind the scene. “It was nice to see more colleges participate than we had expected. Despite having internal exams the week prior to the fest, we tried our best to pull a good fest. Our juniors were also very enthusiastic, which helped a lot,” she said.

Chandana, another coordinator of the event, said that the team had decided to include different events so that everyone had something of their interest. “Seeing the response, we’re sure the fest went well,” she concluded.
