Construction worker electrocuted

A 20-year-old construction worker was electrocuted in an open field next to railway tracks in Sahakarnagar on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Pavan, who hailed from Pandavapura, Mandya district.

According to police, Pavan was living in a makeshift shed on the open field next to Samruddhi Apartments.

On Tuesday morning, he crossed over the railway tracks that divides the empty plot, to relieve himself. He came in contact with a live wire and was electrocuted. Police said debris had pile up near the tracks and thus the electricity wire was very close to the ground. Rains on Monday night might have caused grounding on the plot.

Satish, a constable attached to Kodigehalli police station who visited the spot, attempted to cut the electricity wire, but suffered shock. He was shifted to a nearby private hospital where he is being treated for minor burns, a senior police official said.

Kodigehalli police have registered a case against Bescom officials under Section 304A (death due to negligence) of IPC.

Jobless man ends life

An unemployed youth ended his life at his house in Sanjeevini Nagar, Hegganahalli on Monday late night. 

B Harish (29) was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room. The incident came to light when his mother Sarojamma tried to enter the room to collect the bed for the night.

 However, the door was locked from within and she found her son hanging when she peeped into the room through the window. Neighbours broke open the door and retrieved the body.

However, Harish was dead by then. Harish’s father Eshwarappa works as a conductor with Mangalore KSRTC bus depot. He was on duty when the incident occurred.

In her statement to the police, Sarojamma has stated that Harish did not have a proper job. Though he was working on a contract basis with HMT till a month ago, he quit the job citing poor salary and since then he was looking for employment. She suspected that he might have ended his life dejected over not getting a job.

Rajagopal Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating the case. 

Driver dies of stab injuries

A 22-year-old youth allegedly assaulted by miscreants on Saturday evening, succumbed to injuries at Victoria Hospital on Sunday. The deceased Kamal Shafi, 22, hailed from Wayanad, Kerala was working as water tanker driver and was living in Basaveshwara Layout. 

Kamal Shafi, police said, was admitted to Victoria Hospital by Roja (name changed) a transgender, with whom he was living.

He had suffered stab injuries on his chest. Roja, in her statement has said on Saturday evening at about 5.30 pm, Kamal went to have tea only to return home late night, with stab injuries.

She said Kamal told her that a gang of men stabbed him while he was crossing the railway tracks in Basaveshwara Layout.

Sanjaynagar police have registered a murder case.Police said they have detained Roja for questioning. 

Pedestrian mowed down

A middle-aged woman was mowed down by a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Doddanekkundi on Monday night. Kasim Bi, 49, was a resident of Doddanekkundi. A native of Raichur, she was living with her son, Lal Saab, 30, a painter.

On Monday night, both mother and son were walking to the house of a relative, a few blocks away from their house when a speeding SUV struck them down from behind.

Lal Saab, who was grazed by the vehicle, escaped with minor injuries. Kasim Bi,
 however, was run over by the SUV and died instantaneously. KR Puram Traffic police said that  the  SUV driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.
