The ‘Bangara’ award, instituted in memory of former chief minister the late S Bangarappa, will be conferred on eminent personalities in various fields, during the three-day birth anniversary celebrations of the former chief minister, starting from October 26. The celebrations are being organised by the S Bangarappa Foundation.

This was announced by Madhu Bangarappa, Sorab MLA and JD(S) chief whip in the Assembly, here on Tuesday.

The thanksgiving ceremony for voters of Sorab constituency will be held in Sorab on the first day, in which former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and the party’s other leaders will take part. The Bangara award will be presented to achievers in various fields, including journalism, sports and literature in an event slated to be held in Bangalore.

Cultural programmes will be held in Bangalore on October 28. The Foundation has organised all these programmes as Bangarappa was a multi-faceted personality, he said.

Replying to a query on the JD(S) candidate from Shimoga constituency for the Lok Sabha elections, he said, “Our main goal is to win the Shimoga seat, no matter who the candidate is. The party will choose an able candidate. We will abide by the decision taken by the party leaders. There is no scope for dissidence in this regard.”
