ICSE: Best score from Bangalore is 98.6 pc

While most students appear to have fared well, toppers in their streams have already begun preparing for their Pre-university college stint and further.

A total of 5,921 students from 123 schools wrote the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for Class 10 in 2008-09 in the State. Of them, 99.51 per cent students cleared the examinations. According to statistics, only 13 students have been unable to clear the examinations this year in Karnataka. The total number of candidates who were absent were 16.

Announcing the results in New Delhi, the Board has said that even this year girls have fared better than boys in the examinations. The ICSE examinations overall have been conducted in 66 languages of which 19 are Indian languages. The overall best score at the 10th standard level is 98.6 per cent.

Special Category students

The ICSE statistics show a huge rise in the number of special category students appearing for the 10th standard examinations this year in Karnataka. According to the Board, 123 candidates under the Scheduled Caste appeared this year, a rise of 2.13 per cent. The highest aggregate marks amongst the SC category is 94.20 per cent.

Thirty-three students from the Scheduled Tribe category wrote the examination, down by 0.03 per cent from the previous year. Meanwhile, 462 students sat for the examinations under the Other Backward Class category, achieving a pass percentage of 99.35 per cent, up by 1.45 per cent from last year. The highest percentage in this category attained by a candidate is 95.40 per cent.
