Following the accident on Thursday evening, tension prevailed on Annasandrapalya Main Road near Islampura in the HAL police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Jakatulla Sharif (40), a resident of Annasandrapalya. He was a cook in a hotel. The incident forced several shopkeepers in the area to voluntarily down their shutters as the area is considered to be highly sensitive.

The police rushed to the spot, tightened security in and around Annadasandrapalya and brought the situation under control. Jakatulla Sharif and Papaiah Reddy of Annasandrapalya had picked up a quarrel after consuming alcohol in a bar. They came out of the bar arguing and in a fit of rage, Reddy reportedly slapped Sharif, who lost his balance and fell on the road and was caught under the wheels of a tractor. Sensing trouble, the tractor driver and Reddy escaped from the spot.

Sudden turn of events

As news of the incident spread, a gang of around 20 youths rushed to the spot and started throwing stones at the bar, while some of them shifted the injured Sharif to Nimhans.

A few residents also demanded immediate shifting of the bar. The police said that the bar owner, who possessed a valid license to run the bar, also fled from the scene seeing the unexpected turn of events. Meanwhile, Sharif died at Nimhans after battling for his life for a few hours.
