Tanker hits bike, techie killed

A software engineer and a State government employee were killed in separate road accidents in the City on Friday morning.

Vinayaka Namdev Patanakar (23), a software engineer with a firm near HAL, succumbed to injuries he sustained when a speeding water tanker rammed the bike he was riding. 

The accident occurred as Patanakar suddenly applied the brake near a road hump at Kundalahalli junction. The tanker hit the bike with such a force that Patanakar was tossed in the air and fell to the ground. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital with grievous head injuries, but was declared dead on arrival, police said. Patanakar was native of Shikaripura in Shimoga district and was residing in Whitefield. 

He had shifted to the City only six months ago. Airport traffic police have registered a case. The water tanker driver has been arrested.

Crushed under wheels

In the other accident, a 50-year-old man was crushed under the wheels of a BMTC bus near Malleswaram 18th Cross. 

B Shamsundar, a resident of T Dasarahalli and a Group ‘D’ employee at Vidhana Soudha, was heading to work when the accident occurred. 

According to police, the bus bound for Majestic rear-ended the bike Shamsundar was riding. He fell on the road and the bus ran over him killing him on the spot. 

Malleswaram Traffic police have registered a case and arrested Kumar, the driver of the bus.
