The Public Works Department demolished shops of the owners who had  received compensation from the Department two years ago but hadn’t bothered to demolish their shops.

This had created uncertainty in the minds of the people and had raised many doubts.  The shops starting from Chitravati bridge till National College in the town were razed to ground by earth exacavator during the demolition drive. The drive was carried on with the support of police.

87 properties

The High Court has also given permission for demolition of 87 other properties. The PWD
officials who are awaiting the order copy will begin the demolition once they receive the copy.

It can be recalled that some of the shop owners and building owners had approached court against the road widening works and were even successful in obtaining stay. However, the court ruling was in favour of the road widening works.

Most of the shop owners and building owners who had approached the court, have now started demolishing their shops and building voluntarily after the court verdict.

Public Works Department’s Assistant Executive Engineer Malleshappa, Engineer B S Narasimhamurty, Sub-Inspector J N Anand Kumar and other officials took part in the drive.
