Lahore screening, tribute to Farouque Shaikh

As a mark of tribute to one of stalwarts of Hindi off beat, art house cinema, actor Farouque Shaikh, who passed away recently, K V Subbanna Aptha Rangamandira and Film Study Circle is screening the National Award winning Hindi film Lahore this Sunday at 4.30 pm at the Rangamandira premises.

The film, which has sports as its theme, and loosely inspired by American martial arts flick Best of the Best, is directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and stars, besides Farouque Shaikh, Nafisa Ali, late Nirmal Pandey, Ashish Vidyarthi with debutants Aanaahad and Shraddha Das in the lead. It revolves around an Indian kickboxer who defeats a Pakistani kickboxer in an international tournament.

But the event ends in a tragedy derailing the peace process being engaged by the two nations. With the victim’s Indian brother determined to avenge his family, and country during a second international bout this time being held in Lahore, can peace prevail is the poser which forms the fulcrum of the film. Lahore went on to bag two awards at 57th National Film Awards.

The Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film by a director for Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, while Farooque Shaikh won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Screening at K V Subbanna Aaptha Rangamandira, 151, 7th Cross, Teachers' Colony 1st Stage. For details call Gopinath B R (99641 2999).
