Many had neglected the implementation of the most discussed project of the Centre. However, contrary to this, Kutta Gram Panchayat member Ramakrishna has been making use of the project successfully and has started various development works.
Ramakrishna has undertaken development work worth Rs 8 lakh in Nathangala in Kutta Gram Panchayat limits. The work on the construction of road, drainage, retaining wall, prevention of soil erosion, rain water percolation pond, construction of pond is being carried out in full swing. Nathangala village is tiny hamlet which lacked all the basic infrastructures including road.
Owing to the absence of storm water drains, rain water was flowing on the road.
To give a facelift to the village, the Gram Panchayat Member decided to make use of NREGS. An action plan of Rs 18 lakh was prepared and submitted to the Zilla Panchayat through Gram Panchayat.
Responding to the action plan, Zilla Panchayat released Rs 8 lakh under NREGS. Ramakrishna said about 58 to 60 labourers are carrying out the development works for the last 45 days in the village. The village looks clean now.
“As per the rules, labourers are given Rs 82 per day. Along with it, ponds are being dug in the estates of SC beneficiaries. For the conservation of water, bunds are being constructed to collect water,” he added.
“Shortage of labourers for NREGS is only a pretext. If we make our mind, we can even get labourers. NREGS is a boon for the development of villages. If every GP members make use of it, then we can see development in villages,” says Ramakrishna.
