'I think romance is in my blood'

Kannada actor, director and producer Ravichandran set new standards in the Kannada film industry with Premaloka. The musical extravaganza brought about a paradigm shift in Sandalwood’s content and form. Three decades on, one still associates Ravichandran with the die-hard romantic that he was in Premaloka.

Years may have passed but the veteran star has still not lost his charm. His latest venture ‘Krazy Star’ is a take on his image on and off the big screen. Talking to Metrolife, Ravichandran says, “I think romance is in my blood. I always believe in portraying just about any situation in an exaggerated way. It must not only be visually appealing but dramatic as well.”

Talking about ‘Krazy Star’, Ravichandran says, “The story is about the ups and downs that actors go through in their personal and professional lives. A rather tight schedule leaves actors with little time to spend with their families.”

A large part of the film has been shot in Ravichandran’s house and his studio. A large self-sketched image of himself in the backdrop appears quite often in the film.

“A lot of scenes are shot in my studio to make them appear as real as possible.

Despite my hectic work schedule, God has been gracious to me and I have come this far without complications in my family or professional life,” he shares.

Ravichandran and Priyanka Upendra have come together on screen after their last appearance in Malla. Talking about why he chose Priyanka, Ravichandran reasons, “I met Priyanka at one of the parties and asked her if she would still like to act. The role perfectly suited her because she too has a busy husband (Upendra) and was the best to interpret the character.”

Ravichandran reasons that he tries to infuse something positive in all his films. “I don’t believe in portraying only negative stuff. One must remain positive on and off the screen,” he says rather firmly. He also believes that every new project teaches him a new lesson.

“Learning is a constant process. I make changes to the way I make films based on the changes I see around me, especially in the film industry. It is important to keep oneself updated,” he notes.

Ravichandran’s son Manoranjan has followed his father’s footsteps and made his entry into films. But his launch was a rather silent affair. “I don’t want to pamper my children. I want them to find their own ground. I always tell them to be honest in whatever they are doing,” he signs off.
