BU admits to misplacing answer script after two years

After two years, Bangalore University owned up to its mistake of misplacing the answer script of a BCom student.

Vinay H Mudakavi, of MES Institute of Management, Rajajinagar, had appeared for II semester BCom examination in April 2012. In the results announced in June that year, he was marked absent in business statistics paper.

In other subjects, he had scored more than 70 per cent.

He approached the then Registrar (Evaluation) R K Somashekar seeking intervention. Even though he was assured the problem would be solved immediately, it persisted.
The student filed an RTI but did not receive any satisfactory reply. The college principal too had written a letter to the university several times.

It emerged his answer script was missing.

Disappointed, the student recently approached Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof B Thimme Gowda to rectify the problem.

The vice chancellor appointed an expert committee during the previous syndicate meeting to look into the issue.

The committee found out that the student had indeed appeared for the exam.

In the syndicate meet held on Thursday, Vinay again submitted a representation. Thimme Gowda has assured the student would receive his marks.

Thimme Gowda said, “The university does not store answer scripts six months after the exam. It has been two years since the exam was conducted. Hence, it will not be possible to find the answer script now. It has been established that the mistake was on the university's part. The student would be given an average of marks scored by him in other subjects. We will inquire into the incident and conduct investigation.”
