Youth used to ask his father to get a job

A 21-year-old man was beaten to death with an iron rod by his father in south-west Delhi’s Dabri during the wee hours of Saturday.

The accused told police that his son often asked him to get a job and earn money for the family which led to arguments between them. He has been arrested, police said.

The victim has been identified as Vivek Kumar, who lived with his parents, wife and three brothers in Vishwas Park Extension. His wife had gone to her parents’ house in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district.

According to police, Vivek was sleeping in his room when his father Kuldeep attacked him at around 5 am. “Vivek worked with a private company and was the only earning member of the family,” said Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police (South West) Suman Goyal.

On Friday night, the family had dinner together after which Vivek’s mother and brothers went to sleep. Soon, Vivek and Kuldeep had an argument over Kuldeep’s unemployment and Vivek scolded his father for his “irresponsible attitude”.

Vivek also went to sleep after the exchange of words. “When everyone was asleep, Kuldeep attacked Vivek and repeatedly hit him on his head with an iron rod,” a police officer said.

Hearing the commotion, other family members went to the room and found Vivek lying in a pool of blood. Neighbours also gathered at the house and informed police. Vivek was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

“He died due to severe head injuries and excessive bleeding,” the officer said. Kuldeep has been arrested and police have recovered the iron rod used in commiting the crime.
A case of murder has been registered with Dabri police station. During interrogation, Kuldeep told police that he killed Vivek as he feared that Vivek would kill him for not taking up any job.

Police said an argument had broken out between the two a few days back when Vivek urged his father to find a job as it would help improving the  family’s financial condition, police said. The statements of other family members have been recorded.
