The Delhi BJP on Saturday asked Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to call an all-party meet to discuss water scarcity in Delhi.

Party’s state unit chief Harsh Vardhan emphasised on calling former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party founder Arvind Kejriwal to clarify the grounds on which he promised providing 666 litres of water free to every household every day when the existing water supply is not enough.

“According to government sources, everyday 45 complaints are being received of water scarcity. During Kejriwal government the number of complaints was about 100 a day. It is now necessary that the Lieutenant Governor should call an all-party meeting to discuss the situation,” he said.

“The people of Delhi are being served water bills at increased rates but in many areas, the people are not getting even drinking water. Due to this, the problem of law and order has arisen in the slum clusters, unauthorised colonies, etc. Some days ago, a woman was killed in fight over getting water,” he added.

DJB supplies about 850 million gallons a day (MGD) of water against the demand of more than 1000 MGD.

“The Delhi government makes summer action plan for power and water every year. But it has never been implemented properly. The LG must ensure a water supply,” he added.
