The relatives of 60-year-old Srinivas, who succumbed to head injuries, staged a protest in front of the Sparsha Hospital on Bannerghatta Road on Monday, accusing the hospital of medical negligence.

Family members alleged that the patient was kept in the hospital even after his death to jack up the bills. A family member said that even as they requested doctors that he be moved to Nimhans for further treatment, they refused and informed them about his death at 9.30 am on Monday.

Srinivas was hit by a car while he was crossing the road at Bommanahalli on Sunday. The car owner reportedly took Srinivas to the hospital and paid Rs one lakh towards treatment.

Sources said that upon hearing the news of Srinivas’s death, family members gathered and shouted slogans against the hospital. Soon after, the Hebbagodi police arrived at the spot and convinced family members to withdraw their protest. Later, the body was taken to Victoria Hospital for autopsy.

Dr Sharan Shivraj Patil, Chairman, Sparsha Hospital, said that the patient was brought to the hospital in a critical condition with serious injuries and admitted in the ICU. The family members were informed about the serious condition of the patient, he added.
