Stepping up her attack on the BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi, Congress’ star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday raked up the ‘Snoopgate’ controversy and asked if for him, women empowerment meant tapping of their phones.

She also asked people to “throw such politicians out”. Priyanka, however, did not name Modi.

“Agar aap hamare sashaktikaran ki baat kar rahe ho to band kamron mein hamare phones mat suno” (If you (Modi) are talking of our empowerment, then do not listen to our telephones in closed rooms), Priyanka said while addressing an election meeting at Raebareli, which is her mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s constituency for the Lok Sabha.

“You must have heard of it (Snoopgate)....throw such politicians out,” she went on to say. She was apparently referring to the allegations of tapping of the phone of a woman on the orders of the Gujarat government.

Continuing her diatribe against Modi, Priyanka also said that the country did not need the kind of politics in which one individual had all the powers. “What kind of politics do you (people) want? The one in which all the powers are in the hand of one man?,” she asked.

She also told people to corner those who made tall promises. “You must ask such politicians as to how they intend to fulfill their promises....talking big will not suffice,” she added.
Priyanka had on Tuesday decried attacks on her husband Robert Vadra and said that the “attacks will only make her resolve to fight stronger”.
