Refused credit, youth kills vendor; arrested

A 27-year-old man, who is suspected to have fatally stabbed an elderly roadside vendor when he refused to sell him jackfruit on credit on Nagarathpet Main Road on Sunday, has been arrested. 

Police said Santhosh, from Nagasandra, had stabbed roadside vendor, Vadiyappan, 64, multiple times after the latter demanded that he pay Rs two on the spot for the jackfruit he had bought. Santhosh at first said he would pay the next day but when Vadiyappan did not budge, he took out a knife and stabbed him multiple times before running away. Passersby took Vadiyappan to a hospital where he died later, the Halasuru Gate police said and added that Santhosh had a criminal record. 

Student ends life

Divya, 18, a college student, allegedly committed suicide at her house in Yelahanka police limits on Tuesday. She was a first-year BA student at government degree college in Yelahanka, police said.

She returned from the college on Tuesday, hurried into her room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan. The incident came to light after her parents returned home in the evening. No death note has been found, police added.
