Two cops held for robbery

Four men, including two constables and a railway contractor, were arrested for allegedly abducting and robbing an employee of a cargo company in central Delhi.

Police said the four accused were arrested on Thursday. A senior police officer said that three weeks ago, the cargo company’s employee Rishi Chand Yadav collected a parcel containing mobile phones and Rs 50 lakh from New Delhi railway station, which was sent from Allahabad in Prayag Raj Express.

When Yadav was going to deliver the parcel to Paharganj, four men posing as police constables accosted him.

“He was forcibly taken towards Faridabad in a black car and was abandoned in Surajkund near Faridabad. They threatened him to keep quiet about the incident,” the officer said. Yadav was carrying the parcel in a rickshaw when the four men surrounded him, police said.

More than a week later, Yadav approached police and a case was registered against the four suspects. After a tip-off on Thursday, three of the four accused were arrested near Badarpur in outer Delhi.

At least Rs 12 lakh has been recovered from the other three accused. A car and three mobile phones were also seized from them.

The fourth accused, who is a Delhi Police constable, was caught later.

Police said that he was already under scanner for robbing Rs 1.45 lakh and a car, which was used in commission of the crime. “He was posted at the police control room in north-east zone,” a police officer said.

Police said the other arrested constable works with Haryana Police. One of the other accused was earlier arrested in criminal cases, including those under the Arms Act.
“He used to impersonate as a Haryana Police Crime Branch official,” the senior police officer said.
