It is not everyday that the people in the City get to experience the Mexican culture. Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican festival, was celebrated with Mexican music, food and dance by people of different nationalities in the City at the Habanero outlet in Koramangala.

The expat community from countries like the USA, Japan etc attended the festival. Cinco de Mayo, which means the ‘Fifth of May’, has turned into a major celebration of Mexican food, drink and heritage. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, Mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.

Colombian singer and percussionist Viviana Gonzalez added to the mood of the evening with her peppy, upbeat performance at the show. The performance saw her paying some quintessential Latin percussion instruments like comgas and bongos. Singing some of the classic numbers of Carlos Santana in Spanish and English like ‘Black Magic Woman’ and songs like ‘Every Breath You Take’ and other Spanish numbers, she mesmerised the audience with her deep husky voice and also made some of them shake a leg to the songs.

The food complemented the evening. Different types of Mexican wraps, nachos, burritos, chips combined with mojitos and refreshing punches made the evening a gastronomical delight. Bill Allen, who attended the festival, was quite impressed with the music and the food. “I am surprised to meet so many people from different nationalities here. The food is great and the music is quite refreshing as well. I like the ambience and it is good to meet so many new people,” said Bill.
The evening also saw the expatriates interacting with each other, letting their hair down and enjoying the ambience with some foot- tapping Mexican numbers. The festivities wouldn’t be complete without the famous salsa dance and the Lourd Vijay Dance Studio stole the show with their hip moves. Harini, one of the guests, loved the fact that she was able to witness the culture and the heritage of a different country in Bangalore. “There are so many new people to meet and interact with. The food is great and it is a great way to know about a country. The music steals the show.

Viviana is a lovely singer. She managed to make everyone dance and take an interest in the music.”
