Heroics, nothing else

Last Updated 23 May 2014, 19:39 IST

Heropanti
Hindi (U/A)
Director: Sabbir Khan
Cast: Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, Prakash Raj

Boy sees girl. Boy falls for  girl. But girl can’t. Her dad grabs the gun at the mention of love. And girl’s sister has already heaped tonnes of dishonour on the Jat family, eloping on wedding day.

So, boy decides to spend time judiciously, showing off his gymnastic skills. Tiger Shroff uses his launch pad exclusively for somersaults.

And more somersaults. Acting? Well, he’s pretty good at smiling and staring.
Shroff would have hit the bull’s eye (and smashed it, too) had Heropanti been an out-and-out action film.

But here, he has to follow his lady love (holding an earring that she dropped), profess his love for her, and humour her tyrant of a father (Prakash Raj). Boy, that’s too much for someone who is stiffer than the bones he breaks! On the other hand, Kriti Sanon — for whom Shroff stays up in the air for most part of the film — is delightfully bubbly and more flexible with facial muscles.

Heropanti tries to make a statement against the khaps and their decisions, but it’s all washed away in the torrent of stunts that Shroff has to perform to cover up his bland expressions.
