German businessman found dead in hotel

Police believe he died of heart attack, rule out foul play

A 72-year-old businessman from Germany was found dead at his room in Eros Hotel at south-east Delhi’s Nehru Place on Friday morning. Police have ruled out suicide or murder, instead calling it a natural death.

Victim Edverse had reached Delhi for a business trip on Tuesday.

He had a leather business in Germany and used to make frequent trips to India. He had arrived with a business partner who was staying at another hotel.

The hotel staff told police that he had checked into room number 803 on Tuesday.

He had ordered continental food along with beer for dinner on Thursday night.He did not emerge from his room on Friday morning and ordered no breakfast after which the hotel staff called him over phone.

When repeated calls went unanswered, the staff entered his room to find him lying unconscious with a bleeding mouth.

The food and drinks were left mostly untouched.

Police were informed and he was rushed to AIIMS where doctors declared him brought dead.

His friend was questioned and he revealed that Edverse was a heart patient and it was likely he died of a cardiac arrest.

His body has been sent for a post-mortem and the German embassy informed about the death.
