Sushil may miss Asian Games

Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar has pulled out of the forthcoming Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea to be held from September 19 - October 4, Wrestling Federation of India general secretary Raj Singh said the champion grappler had requested to be excused from all the remaining events of 2014, including the World Championships. The WFI had held trials for the Games on Wednesday.

“He wants to prepare for the Rio Olympics in his own way. He said he will participate in 2015 but not anymore this year,” Singh told Deccan Herald.

‘He, however, might accompany us for the camps abroad for the training purposes.”
Sushil, who won gold in the recently held Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the new weight category of 74 kg, has been selective in his participation off late. After the 2012 London Olympics, the 31-year-old didn’t participate in any tournament in 2013 and made a comeback only this year by winning a gold medal in Italy in June.

However, his friend and Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt will be participating in the Games. Dutt and Amit Dahiya, who had won gold in Glasgow, did not have to take part in trials as they were given a direct entry for the event.

 Others who were picked in freestyle category are Bajrang (61kg), Praveen Rana (70 kg), Narsingh Yadav (74 kg), Pawan Kumar (86 kg) and Satyawart Kadian (97 kg)
In Greco Roman, Ravinder Singh (59 kg), Sandeep Yadav (66 kg), K.K. Yadav (71 kg), Gurpreet Singh (75 kg), Harpreet (80 kg), Manoj Kumar (85 kg), Hardeep (98 kg) were selected.
