Federation threatens to observe January 26 as black day

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Federation President Kattimandaiah said if the government fails to release special package even after Republic Day, then Coffee Board offices in Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Hassan districts will be picketed. If the government fails to respond, then Coffee Board office in Bangalore will be picketed. He said “the special coffee loan must be extended to March. The banks have already started issuing notices to the growers for repayment. Banks will be held responsible for any untoward incidents which may occur due to the harassment. Banks should stop harassing growers as package is expected atleast by March. If they continue to harass growers, then we will stage protest,” they warned.

“Elected representatives should not keep quite with regard to special coffee package. The assurances given by MP D V Sadananda Gowda and H Vishwanath have not been fulfilled with regard to special package to coffee,” they added.

“Zilla Panchayat engineering division has not yet prepared an action plan for the development of roads in South Kodagu. IAS, IPS and KAS officials should serve the district atleast for two years. If politicians continue to transfer officials, then we have to stage protest against politicians as well,” he added.
