Following allegations of corruption in the purchase of bicycles by the Opposition, Yeddyurappa announced to hold an inquiry by a five-member committee headed by JD(S) leader M C Nanaiah. Chairman Veeranna Mathikatti ratified the government’s decision.

The issue came up for debate as the CM told the House that his government was willing to clear all pending issues before the House. Taking a cue from his statement, Leader of Opposition V S Ugrappa raised that a year ago the CM had assured the House that he would constitute a House committee to probe into alleged corruption in purchase of bicycles for students. So far the assurance had not been fulfiled, he pointed.

Responding to the allegation, Yeddyurappa said the government had maintained transparency in the tender process to purchase bicycles. Ugrappa said purchase of bicycles involved corruption to the tune of Rs 20 crore per year.
