Bangalore South MLA M Krishnappa on Tuesday said that buildings, if any, constructed on the encroached portion of Uttarahalli lake should be demolished.

When Mayor N Shanthakumari and her deputy Ranganna visited Uttarahalli lake to inspect the development works carried out there, reporters sought to know from her about the eviction of encroachment.

Krishnappa, who was accompanying Shanthakumari, was quick to refute allegations of encroachment upon Uttarahalli lake.

“Who said there is encroachment? There is no encroachment. These are all baseless charges. Government itself has demarcated the boundary and fenced the lake,” said Krishnappa.

When the reporters insisted that there was a complaint with the Lokayukta on the
encroachment of Uttarahalli Lake, Krishnappa said if the probe proves encroachment, then the structures, if any, on lake bed should be demolished.

It may be recalled here that earlier this year, activist Nagalakshmi Bai had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta alleging encroachment of Uttarahalli Lake.

She had alleged that Krishnappa had used his clout to get the Uttarahalli lake land illegally denotified. After denotification, the MLA allegedly gifted the land to his daughter and son-in-law, who built an apartment complex on the land.
