Security forces early on Saturday gunned down four miliants near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Tanghdar sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.

According to reports, the Army launched a massive operation in Tanghdar sector on Friday night after they noticed the movement of a group of atleast four militants. A defence spokesman said four militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation and that four AK 47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

However the identities of the slain militants have not been ascertained so far, he said.
Meanwhile, the Army said on Saturday that nearly 200 heavily armed militants were waiting to enter Indian territory across the border.

“There are around 200 heavily armed terrorists across the LoC waiting to infiltrate the Kashmir Valley. Infiltrators tried to take advantage of the recent floods in the Kashmir Valley, but the army foiled their attempts,” General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen Subrata Saha told reporters.

He also said that the Army’s security grid has been put in place to neutralise active militants in Kashmir.
