Hundreds of siteless people led by Ahinda Okkuta staged a protest demanding the authorities to allot land to the shelterless across the hobli, at Kushalnagar town on Monday.

The protest rally that commenced at Ayyappa temple road, passed via Field Marshal K M Cariappa road and culminated at town panchayat office premises. The protesters shouted slogans against the government and elected representatives throughout their protest.

They submitted a memorandum to the town panchayat Chief Officer Ramesh and Revenue Officer Nanda Kumar at Nadakacheri. Accepting the plea, Nanda Kumar said that sites are required for various purposes of different departments, Yet, there is government land availability near Kanive which could be utilised to distribute to the shelterless. The memorandum will be sent to the senior officials for consideration, he said.
Addressing the protesters, Ahinda Hobli President M K Hamid alleged the government and elected representatives of cheating the public since 40 years with mere assurances of allotting them sites. There are over 500 siteless people in Kushalnagar town alone and none of the protests in the past have borne fruit.

As government paisari land has been evicted now, the land has to be distributed among the poor. A memorandum has been submitted to the deputy commissioner and he has responded positively and has written to the town panchayat and revenue officers to pursue the matter. The officials should take note of this and allot sites to the deserving people, he demanded.
