Two women washed away in Chikmagalur

Rains lashed several parts of the State, throwing life out of gear, in the last two days. Two women were washed away while crossing a stream at Giriyapura in Ajjampura of Tarikere taluk, Chikmagalur district on Sunday evening.

The deceased are Gowramma (40) and Sharadamma (50). Both hail from Yagati village. Fire service personnel and police retrieved one of the bodies on Monday. With the region receiving heavy rainfall, water bodies in Ajjampura, Shivani and Giriyapura are in spate.
Heavy rains, coupled with gusty winds and lightning, damaged banana plantations in Narasimharajapura taluk. Rubber trees were also uprooted.

Kodagu

Heavy rains lashed Kushalnagar taluk on Monday. Rainwater entered the KSRTC bus stand and a few houses.

Davangere, Chitradurga

Several parts of the two districts received moderate rains on Monday afternoon.
 Normal life was affected for some time in the region. Hosadurga town in Chitradurga district received heavy rains accompanied by thunder. Water overflowed from clogged drains near the private bus stand.

The Devikere lake, one of the biggest in the taluk, is in spate. River Vedavathi, the lifeline of the region, is overflowing with rainwater.

There was ample inflow to Vani Vilas Sagar reservoir due to heavy rains in the catchment areas. Residents in Hosadurga are happy that the rainfall will solve the drinking water problem in the town.

Onion, banana and pomegranate growers suffered losses due to the rains.

Hubli-Dharwad

It drizzled throughout Monday in the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad. It rained heavily after evening in Dharwad.

Gadag

Heavy rains, 40 mm, lashed Lakshmeshwar in the district on Monday morning. Farmers had a problem reaching their fields due to the rainwater flooding the villages.
