<p>A one-sided affair claimed the life of class 12 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut town.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The minor girl had gone missing on Monday and a report was lodged with the police by her parents, who are teachers at a prestigious college in Meerut town.She had gone to take her tuition classes on Monday evening, but never returned home.<br /><br />The police had detained the girl’s classmate – son of an affluent trader in the town – on Tuesday.<br /><br />Though the boy aadmitted that he had murdered the girl and dumped her body a few kilometres away from the town, the policemen did not believe him as the body could not be recovered despite extensive search operations.<br /><br />The teaching community in Meerut had threatened to go on strike in protest against the failure of the police to trace the girl.<br /><br />The girl’s body was recovered on Thursday morning from the bushes near the Ganga Canal.<br /><br />Sources said the girl’s body bore several injury marks.<br /><br />“It appears that she was strangled to death. Her face appeared to have been hit several times by a screw driver or something like that. An attempt was also made to burn her face with acid,” said an official. <br /><br />He told the police that he had an argument with the girl on Monday evening after which he strangled her.<br /><br />Officials said that the boy was in love with the girl but the latter had spurned his advances. <br /><br />He also claimed that the girl had become close to some other boy, who was also a member of their ‘group’, which he did not like.<br /><br />“I had warned her repeatedly, yet she used to chat with the boy regularly,” he told the police during interrogation.<br /><br />Police have also recovered the culprits’s blood stained-shirt.</p>
